Abstract

The current study assesses farmers’ attitudes and barriers towards agricultural development in Asir, Saudi Arabia. Simple random sampling was used to collect the data. Findings revealed that most respondents were interested in farm work. The majority of respondents have a positive attitude toward agricultural extension as a source of information. Spearman's rank-order correlation revealed a significant association between age and barriers to agricultural development. Education significantly correlated with farmers’ attitudes toward agricultural activities. Main professions significantly correlated with farmers’ attitudes and face barriers. Farming experience significantly correlated with farmers’ attitudes. Land area significantly correlated with their attitudes and faced barriers. Therefore, it is suggested that educational programs, training, and workshops should be arranged in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture to reduce barriers to agricultural development in Saudi Arabia.
